Why? because reproductions are made from molds that are not always 100% perfect and were not made by the factory. As with most molds, there can be minor blemishes or surface wear, slightly off measurements, or not perfect color-match. But if there are no reproductions, then the prices of NOS and good originals go up for the scarcity.
